Open Jar Expansion: 43rd Street Studios
Open Jar Studios was originally dedicated to the creation of art and the cultivation of the artist.
Starting in early 2027, Open Jar Studios will be expanding to a new 2nd location on 43rd street and Broadway, providing an additional 40,000/sf of studio spaces for auditions, rehearsals, classes and training.
Announced on September 8th, the new studio spaces will feature 17 additional studios, the majority of which will be 1,600/sf, providing a much-needed space for workshops, auditions and training at 1501 Broadway, the Paramount Building.
Reason to expand:
With studio occupancy hitting all-time highs, the demand for more space has grown accordingly. With high turnover on Broadway shows there are many Broadway productions in-the-works, all of which need space for workshops, rehearsals, readings, presentations, auditions, and more. Studios around 1,200 - 1,600/sf are the ideal size most needed. The new expanded studios will feature 16 studios, the majority of which will be around 1,600/sf, providing a much-needed resource, in addition to support offices and amenities for theatre makers and artists.
NEW EXPANDED LOCATION: Open Jar 43rd Street Studios - 1501 Broadway (43rd & Broadway):
Celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year, 1501 Broadway has a rich cultural history. It originally housed The Paramount movie palace, headquarters for Paramount Pictures, and it currently hosts many Broadway professionals, producers, casting teams, and entities who support the heart of Broadway. This ideal location in the heart of the Theatre District makes an expansion at 43rd Street a really natural fit to further support the Broadway community.
